Frequently asked questions
What is integrative counselling?
Integrative counselling is a flexible approach to therapy that draws on different therapeutic models and techniques. Rather than using a single approach, I tailor the therapy to your individual needs, experiences, and goals, creating a supportive and collaborative space for personal growth and change.
What can I expect from my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will discuss what has brought you to therapy, any concerns you may have, and what you hope to gain from counselling. There is no pressure to share everything straight away, and you are welcome to ask any questions about the counselling process.
The first session also allows us to explore whether we feel we can work well together, as the therapeutic relationship is an important part of effective counselling.
How long is each session?
Sessions last 50 minutes and are usually held weekly at a regular time.
How much does counselling cost?
The fee for each 50-minute session is £50
I aim to make counselling accessible and offer a limited number of discounted places for students and concessionary rates for those who may be experiencing financial difficulties. If cost is a concern, please contact me and we can discuss the options available.
An invoice will be sent after each session, and payment details will be provided on the invoice.
Is counselling confidential?
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of counselling. Everything discussed in our sessions will be treated with respect and kept confidential.
There are, however, a few exceptions where confidentiality may need to be broken. These include situations where there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, concerns relating to safeguarding, or where disclosure is required by law. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person. Some clients come for a small number of sessions to work through a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and personal development. We will regularly review your progress and discuss your needs together.
Do I need to have a mental health diagnosis to attend counselling?
No. You do not need a diagnosis to benefit from counselling. People seek therapy for many reasons, including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, grief, life transitions, or simply wanting a space to reflect and understand themselves better.
Can I stop counselling at any time?
Yes. Counselling is voluntary, and you are free to end therapy at any time. If possible, it can be helpful to discuss your decision in a session so that we can reflect on your experience and bring the work to a meaningful close.
How do I book an appointment?
You can get in touch via the contact form, email, or telephone to arrange an initial appointment. I will respond as soon as possible and answer any questions you may have before we begin. I offer a free 15 minute initial consultation
