What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis uses safe and natural trance states that everyone experiences on a daily basis. There is no one overarching explanation of hypnosis, and it's interesting to note that everybody experiences it in a very different way, but the main feeling everyone experiences is a profound sense of relaxation.

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is about using the benefits of hypnosis (your relaxed hypnotic state, where you have more concentration and greater awareness), to utilise the power of your unconscious mind to achieve your intended goals though the specific use of techniques that are employed by the hypnotherapist. Whilst in a more relaxed state, your unconscious mind becomes more receptive to suggestions, these are usually acted upon quicker whilst relaxed and in deep concentration. Despite what you may have heard or seen on the TV, there are no swinging watches or making you imitate a chicken. Its shows like this that has left many members of the public with misconceptions and reluctancy to use this fascinating therapy to help them.

Will I lose control?

Definitely not, you are always in full control (despite what you've seen in hypnotic TV shows). There's no question of you being completely unaware of what's happening. You'll just feel very relaxed, you'll hear everything I say and you can NEVER be made to do anything that your unconscious mind feels goes against your principles. In many therapeutic situations there needs to be ongoing dialogue between myself and the client, this would be hard to achieve if you were in too deep a relaxed state...or asleep!

How many sessions will I need?

This can vary for each person. Each person will have their own symptoms, behaviours, underlying feelings and reasons for change, so these do need addressing in different ways with different timescales.

For some of the most common issues like smoking or bad habits, these could be resolved in just two to three general sessions. Other issues may need a few more sessions to resolve, but we won't know until we start working together. My aim is to treat you in the shortest possible time so that you can get on with your life again.

If we decide that a breakthrough session is the better approach, this will be just 1 session in most cases.

Will I be treated the same as others who have the same symptoms or issues?

Absolutely not. Every person has very different reasons for seeking help. They also have very different backgrounds, motives and symptoms, so the style of hypnotherapy I practice, ensures that I create a very unique approach to each client. Unlike some hypnotherapists, I don't have a one size fits all script for each condition.

How much does it cost and how long is each session ?

I offer a free introductory 20 minute phone consultation to discuss your issues in detail. After that my fees are £65 per hour for all sessions (excluding smoking cessation, breakthrough sessions and confident childbirth courses).

General sessions: please allow between 1-3 hours per session.

Smoking cessation: one 2 hour session at £150 (anything over 2 hours is charged at a pro rota basis).

Breakthrough sessions: please allow between 6-9 hours.

Confident child birth sessions: 4 x 1hr sessions at weekly intervals.

What happens next?

Well if you still have questions unanswered, please phone or send me an email. I'm happy to answer any questions that you may have. We can also have a free 20 minute phone consultation to discuss your issues in more detail. During the discussion, I can find out what issues you have and what changes you'd like to make. It also give me the opportunity to tell you more about how I work, how many sessions you'd probably need, what commitment I need from you, and finally also find out if we could both work together. In a situation like this, there needs to be a high level of trust, commitment and focus from both sides. When we've agreed to work together, I'll ask you to complete some ordeals beforehand (ordeals are tasks that are set to create a greater awareness of your issue and generate momentum towards your transformation).

General sessions: If all goes well, we can arrange your first session where I'll take a detailed case history, identify what changes we can make and depending on the issue/s, begin our work together. When you come back for the following sessions, we'll have a format that we can work with. As time progresses there may be a need to adjust our approach to incorporate your ongoing transformation to a better life.

Breakthrough sessions: If this is the right approach for you, we'll work out the ordeals you'll need to complete to raise your awareness and demonstrate your commitment to change. Once complete, we can begin our breakthrough work together.

Location and availability

For your convenience I currently practice from several locations, these being:

I can if necessary travel to see you (whether at home or office), but please note that my fees will include my travel expenses.

I can be flexible in my hours to fit around each client. I can also visit you for an evening appointment if that helps with your schedule.

If these times aren't convenient then some weekend appointments can be made by prior arrangement.

Cancellations

Cancellation with less than 24 hours notice or failure to turn up for an appointment will cause the client to be liable for 50% of the cost of the session.
