One for the ladies!
Women are just as likely to affected by smoking as men. Some common issues are:
- Smokers face. A distinct aging of the skin in smokers has been identified. Key characteristics are increases in lines and wrinkles, a subtle gauntness and a change in skin colouring.
- Women who smoke and take the contraceptive pill have 10 times the risk of a heart attack, stroke or heart disease compared to those who took the pill and were non smokers.
- Smoking has been linked with an increased likelyhood of menstrual problems.
- Smoking can in some cases increase the risk of miscarriage and infant death.
- Female smokers are more susceptible to lung cancer than male smokers.
- 41,000 women die every year from smoking. That's 112 every day!
