Why have a confident childbirth course?
The birth of a child is often one of the happiest moments in a mother's life, but for expectant mums they may have fears, concerns, heard ‘stories' from others, or have had difficult pregnancies or births themselves.
Whether you are first time parents or expecting another child, the confident childbirth method can make it a more relaxed and comfortable experience for all those involved.
Using the confident childbirth approach, you can take greater control of your pregnancy and delivery, so you and your baby can feel more relaxed leaving you more time to create that special bond that's so vital in the first few hours after your baby is born.
What is confident childbirth?
It's a series of sessions that empower you (and your partner) to take more control of your pregnancy and delivery. It aims to make this wonderful time more memorable and enjoyable without the need for medical interventions.
How does it work?
As a member of the Confident Childbirth network, my aim is to teach you (and your partner) a range of self hypnosis, guided visualisation, and sensation control techniques. You may be surprised at how easy it is to prepare yourself and look forward to the birth of your child, and motherhood beyond, in a calm and relaxed way. In many cases, mothers can eliminate or manage sensations completely (depending on the amount of practice they put into it, but I can't guarantee this). Unlike other methods, there are no books to read or CD’s to listen to as part of the course, it’s based purely on empowering you to be in control through simple and efficient techniques, which leave you feeling calm, relaxed and comfortable.
What if I had a confident childbirth course?
Imagine the confidence you can have knowing that you're fully prepared to have your baby under your own terms, What if you knew that you've adopted an approach which will help both you and your baby in the most positive way. How would you feel knowing that you can have more energy to devote to bonding with your new baby? What if you knew that many of these techniques can be used in everyday life such as general pain relief, dentistry or de-stressing?
And we shouldn’t forget the key role that the father can have in helping to ensure the delivery is as smooth and relaxed as possible. It's for this reason, that I'd encourage all mothers-to-be that I work with to bring their partners to our sessions, so that I can give them a different perspective (how many times have you heard a new Dad say “I felt like a spare part, and didn't know what to do apart from hold her hand!”).
I suggest leaving it no later than the beginning of the third trimester (30 weeks) to ensure we have sufficient time.
