Mal Soomessur-Indepedant Midwife
I have been a midwife since 1981 and worked in the NHS for 25 years, prior to becoming an independent midwife in 2001. In the NHS I supported women from pregnancy to motherhood. I was also a supervisor of midwives. In this role I had to concentrate on quality of care, standards and safe practice.
After sitting at a desk for a year (I was now climbing the management ladder) I realised that I was missing being a hands on midwife. My passion for, midwifery, continuity of care and supporting women to be involved in making informed choices, made me decide to be an Independent midwife.
Here I am, an Independent midwife and loving it.
Since becoming an independent midwife I have enjoyed supporting many couples to birth safely and confidently at home and advocated to exercise their choices in hospital.
The women I have delivered are happy to share their experiences with you if you wish. I will supply you with their telephone numbers after our consultation meeting.
I specialise in home births, water births, VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean section) and Breech births.
I am caring, flexible, and confident and I have a very cheerful, out-going personality. I am also a reflexologist. The women love it, as I offer this service as part of the package.
